Meet Our Staff
Director of Religious Exploration
Aaron comes to the RE program with nearly two decades of personal, academic, and professional work in Religion and the education of children and youth. He has his B.A. in Religious Studies and M.E.d. from UC Santa Barbara, and multiple teaching credentials. He has travelled all over the world, including having lived for two years in India. He taught Elementary, Middle and High School in the U.S. and Thailand, and currently teaches in a Public Waldorf school. Aaron brings a deep passion for the arts, music and storytelling to his work with our young ones. As a former Tibetan Buddhist monk and long time meditator, he also understands the importance of a personal daily spiritual practice, and wants to support young people in their own individual and communal search for meaning and happiness in our changing world. Perhaps most importantly, Aaron is a married father of four beautiful children! He is extremely happy to be the new DRE.

I grew up here in California. While I am a lifelong student, I received my formal education at UC Santa Cruz. I completed my B.A. in music (emphasis on piano and percussion) in 2008 and my M.A. in music (in conducting orchestral, choral, opera, and 20th-century music) in 2011. I have worked in a variety of churches both as a pianist and music director since 2008.
I joined the UUCMP staff in August 2013. I believe music serves as a way to connect people across time and space. This belief guides my musical choices for each service. Our ensembles explore music from the Western classical tradition, a variety of world cultures, and a plethora of religious traditions—all in hopes to unify and enlighten our spiritual connections through music. I enjoy collaborating with musicians of all ages and all skill levels, and I see it as my mission to provide as many musical opportunities as the congregation may thirst for. Please feel free to talk to me about your musical gifts so we may work to serve this community together.

I am our Congregation’s part-time office assistant. I am in the office from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
I recently relocated to the Monterey area from Dallas, Texas where I owned my own business for over 20 years. The main reason I moved here (apart from the weather and the scenery) is to be closer to my three grandchildren. I am enjoying semi-retirement—not yet ready for the rocking chair! I am looking forward to becoming involved in the community in various ways. I love yoga, running, watching kids play soccer, cooking (and eating), good books and movies, discussing politics and countless other interests.
Thanks to all the friendly and caring members of UUCMP whom I have met so far, I feel right at home here. Stop by the office to say “Hi”!
