Music participation and enjoyment are key elements in our community.
Congregational singing is at the core of our worship experience. With support from a professional accompanist, we sing a wide variety of music from two modern Unitarian Universalist hymnals. These include traditional and modern hymns, contemporary gospel, chants, and world music, often with texts by prominent UU ministers and authors.
Choir is comprised of members and friends of the congregation who love to sing. It is led by our professional Director of Music and provides a wonderful addition to the Sunday morning services twice a month. The choir practices Thursday evenings from 7–9 p.m. All levels of skill and experience are welcome!
Special music and small ensembles are offered as part of worship services by musicians of all ages from the congregation and the larger community. These include music programs for children and youth, a recorder consort, and instrumental chamber ensembles. The recorder consort practices Thursday evenings from 6–7 p.m.
Special activities include inter-generational musical events coordinated with the Religious Exploration program, “Community Sing” for shut-ins and in residences for retired or disabled people, an annual all-music service, and a recorder consort.
Cultural Events at UUCMP is a series of events, including concerts or special musical events which are enjoyed by both congregants and people from the local community.
