Researchers say church attendance in most mainline denominations has been steadily declining for years. A growing portion of the population, when asked to indicate their religious affiliation on surveys, marks “none.” Many say they consider themselves “spiritual but not religious,” rejecting religious doctrine, but nevertheless longing for an inclusive community with a sense of the spiritual.
