September Shared Plate Recipient – Meals on Wheels Monterey Peninsula

Meals on Wheels is all about bringing our community together! They provide delicious meals throughout Monterey County, delivering tasty food to shut-ins while also checking in on their well-being. They also serve meals on site at the Meals on Wheels Community Center in Pacific Grove. It’s not just about the meals; it’s about creating connections! Group Dining at the Meals on Wheels Community Center is designed for active seniors to promote socialization and community involvement which increases physical and psychological well-being.

Plus, they offer fun classes, resources, and activities that make it easy for everyone to get involved and enjoy each other’s company. If we want to make a difference in the world, we must begin by uniting in our communities. The mission of Meals on Wheels is to empower seniors, disabled adults, veterans, and other under-served populations to maintain their independence by nourishing their bodies, minds, and spirits, while also combating hunger and isolation in our region.

Meals on Wheels serves as a compelling example of how UU principles can manifest in tangible support for community members, promoting inclusion, compassion, and respect for all. They support the inherent worth and dignity of every person, justice, equity, and compassion in human relations, and acceptance of one another. Together we are stronger.
