Parents and caregivers come to UUCMP seeking a community to help guide children to be kind, respectful, fair-minded, caring, and strong people who can make a difference in this world. Our religious exploration classes, worship experiences, social-justice work, and multigenerational gatherings reinforce what parents teach at home. We nurture truth-seeking, spirituality, and moral values that will continue to shape and support our children as they grow.

Our religious exploration programs combine story, song, art, movement, discussion, and play to engage children with many learning styles, abilities, and activity levels. Our teen programs focus on community building and deep sharing as youth learn to apply their UU values in their everyday lives. Most classes are lead by adult volunteers from within the congregation, who give of their time because they care about the children and youth of our community. We supplement our volunteers with professional staff in the nursery and early elementary classrooms in order to provide the most consistent experience possible for the youngest children.

The goals of our religious exploration program can be summarized by the following “core truths.”

  • Nursery: I know that I am loved.
  • Lower elementary: I know that I am a valued member of this church.
  • Upper elementary: I know about Unitarian Universalism.
  • Middle school: I know about other religions, and how they compare to Unitarian Universalism.
  • High School: I know what I believe and I live my UU identity in my community.

Sunday Mornings

Religious exploration classes are offered for children in kindergarten through high school during the second worship service almost every Sunday. The exceptions are when all the children and youth participate in our multi-generational worship services that are scheduled about every two months. Nursery care, however, is available during both worship services and is extended to older children who visit during the first service, but are not comfortable attending the service with their families.

All of our classes are always welcoming of newcomers! We invite your family to visit us any Sunday. If you would like more information, please contact our director of religious exploration, Corey Brunson, at dre.corey@uucmp.org.
