Economic Justice
Given the huge role of the hospitality and agriculture industries in our area, we are affiliated with the UU Service Committee, and the Restaurant Opportunities Center of the Bay to launch a consumer awareness movement that supports restaurants that promote sustainable food and sustainable labor practices. We also advocate for a living wage for all workers.
The escalation of economic inequality undergirds a thousand injustices, from climate change to homelessness, from mass incarceration to low-wage worker exploitation. Economic inequality also disproportionately impacts people of color. We work for justice, equity, and compassion in our relationships and systemic change in our society.
We partner with local organizations including UNITE HERE Local 483 https://www.unitehere483.org/ representing hospitality workers on the Monterey Peninsula
And the United Farm Workers Foundation in Salinas which mobilizes farm workers to advocate for more equitable policies and assists with immigration issues.
