Social Justice
Our Faith In Action
Social justice is one of the principles upon which Unitarian Universalism is based. Social Justice events and projects change the lives of UUCMP members by giving them opportunities to move the world toward peace and justice. We grow by creating a strong community that values respect for the interdependence of all existence.
COPA
UUCMP is a member of COPA, Communities Organized for Relational Power in Action. Since 2003, COPA has been developing leaders in member institutions through Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties so that together they can take action on the issues affecting their families. By deepening relationships within and across diverse communities, COPA builds power and works to revive democracy in our region.
The 8th Principle
On Sunday May 2, 2021, at our Annual Meeting, we adopted the 8th Principle:
“We, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Peninsula, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
