There is a popular idea that mysticism has become outdated in today’s life experience and that mystics are persons so strange and otherworldly as to be useless to those of us seeking to live a spiritual life in the 21st century. But in light of our UU 7th Principle, “respect for the interdependent web of existence of which we are a part,” mysticism, which takes “respect” a step further to “experience” and pushes “interdependence” to “at-one-ness,” is certainly worth another look. What is the relation of mysticism to meditation, contemplative mindfulness, dream life, creativity in the arts, and athletic achievement while “in the Zone.” This service is about the inward and outward implications of the amazing experience of the mystery of life itself.
