Isabel Wilkerson, in her book Caste, compares America to an old house, one that has leaks and damaged areas and weak spots, which you ignore at your peril. In order to repair and reconstruct an old house, it is very helpful to get more information about where the problems lie, and to clearly identify the issues. We too might need to better know and understand some American history, in order to move forward repairing and reconstructing our country.
